The New York Giants made some unfortunate NFL history in their 21-18 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Despite scoring three touchdowns, they made no extra points. Their defense kept the Commanders out of the end zone but gave up seven field goals. They became the second team in history to lose a game in which they scored three touchdowns while not allowing any.
Frustratingly, the Giants lost their kicker, Graham Gano, after the opening kickoff. Already dealing with a groin injury, Gano hurt his hamstring trying to chase down Austin Ekeler on the return. After New York’s punter, Jamie Gillan, missed an extra point after their first touchdown, the Giants attempt two-point conversions after their next two scores. Obviously, both failed.
Gano was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday.
The New York Giants Signed Greg Joseph

With Gano going on injured reserve, the Giants signed veteran kicker Greg Joseph from the Detroit Lions practice squad. Joseph made the initial 53-man roster for the Green Bay Packers after training camp but was cut a day later when they claimed Brayden Narveson off of waivers.
Joseph was competing with Anders Carlson in Packers training camp, but neither kicker performed well leading up to the start of the regular season.
The Giants will be Joseph’s ninth team in his seven-year NFL career. He has a career field goal percentage of 82.6% and extra point percentage of 90.1%.
New York Giants Fans Have Mixed Reactions to the Signing of Greg Joseph
Joseph does hold the NFL record for most game-winning kicks in a season (five), and has a 61-yard field goal under his belt, the longest in Minnesota Vikings franchise history.
However, he just is not as consistent as teams want their kickers to be.

As one can see above, some fans are happy just to have a kicker that has experienced some success in the NFL on their roster. Others, however, are wondering why the team did not make this move earlier.
As mentioned previously, Gano was already dealing with a groin injury going into Week Two. The Giants probably should have addressed their kicker situation before it cost them the game on Sunday.
