The Atlanta Falcons are now in the Michael Penix Jr era, as the team elected to make him the starter in Week 16. He certainly flashed in his three starts, including a 312 yard, two touchdown performance in Week 18 against the Carolina Panthers.
Luckily for Penix Jr, Atlanta has a solid core of weapons already around him. Drake London, Kyle Pitts and Bijan Robinson are all first-round picks that the Falcons have assembled over the years. London is special, as he's coming off of his first 1,000 yard season (1,271 yards and nine touchdowns in 2024).
If Atlanta wants to give their young quarterback even more targets to throw to, they could look for options in the draft. Rob Gregson of A to Z Sports has the Falcons selecting LSU wideout Kyren Lacy with the No.46 pick in their recent mock draft.
The Michael Penix Jr. experiment in Atlanta is seemingly full steam ahead after the Kirk Cousins era ended before it even seemingly started. Penix did his best work when he had three notable pass catchers at Washington. Lacy should fit perfectly alongside Drake London and Kyle Pitts.
Lacy is an explosive downfield threat that could bode well in Atlanta's offense. He was playing behind the likes of Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr in 2023, who have both went on to each have over 1,000 yards in their first NFL seasons. Lacy emerged from their shadows in 2024, catching 58 passes for 866 yards and nine touchdowns for the Tigers. In five years at college, Lacy's logged 2,360 yards and 26 touchdowns in that span. He'd be a solid option behind Drake and Pitts in Atlanta's offense.
