EXCLUSIVE: Mitch Richmond Opens Up On Klay Thompson Leaving The Franchise

Golden State Warriors legend Mitch Richmond will be remembered as one of the greatest two-guards in franchise history, but the greatest two-guard for the Warriors is Klay Thompson. Klay left the Warriors for the Dallas Mavericks this summer, with Richmond reacting to the same exclusively to Fadeaway World in Abu Dhabi.

"He's had a good run. I liked him as a Warrior but the NBA changes all the time, so you go from different places, but never a prominent player like that, you just stay at the one particular place where he developed his skill and won championships. Now, he's in a whole different place, the Dallas Mavericks, where I live, so anxious to see what he does.

Richmond called Thompson one of his favorite players in the game and will be tuning into his contests in Dallas.

"He was one of my favorite players along with Steph Curry. I hope that he gets off well, it's a whole different atmosphere and a team, but he'll find his way.

Thompson averaged 19.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists over 13 seasons with the Warriors, winning four championships with the franchise. He was crucial to their run to the title in 2022, proving that he has always been integral to the franchise's success.

After averaging 17.9 points last season, his second-worst year in the NBA, Klay moved on to the Mavericks after not being able to live up to the load of a second option anymore. On the Mavs, Klay is flanked by Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, which will lighten his load while helping the Mavs space the floor.

If Thompson can hold up defensively, the Mavericks might have one of the scariest starting fives in the NBA with these three scorers, two-way power forward P.J. Washington and ascendant center Dereck Lively II.
