Eagles win means Packers remain the NFL’s only team to 3-peat

Philly helped to preserve a bit of history for the Packers.

For many fans of the Green Bay Packers, the possibility of another team matching something that only the Packers have done in NFL history was enough to sway their rooting interest in Super Bowl LIX. The Kansas City Chiefs’ opportunity to three-peat would have been the first time an NFL team pulled off that feat entirely in the Super Bowl era and would have written them into the history books next to the Packers as the only teams to ever do it.

Instead, the Philadelphia Eagles dominated on Sunday evening, beating the Chiefs 40-22 in a game that was a bigger blowout than even that final score indicated. And in so doing, they ended the Chiefs’ streak at two.

The Packers can also take some measure of solace in knowing that their own loss in this year’s postseason came at the hands of the eventual Super Bowl winners. That Wild Card contest wasn’t a pretty game and the Packers were largely outclassed from the opening kickoff, but this may still provide some fans with a bit of comfort.

Now that the game is over, it’s time to move right ahead to looking at 2025. The NFL Combine will start up in just over two weeks, with free agency another two weeks after that. There’s no down time in this league, and the Packers are surely already hard at work trying to figure out how to improve their roster and figuring out if there are any lessons they can learn from the new Super Bowl champs.

(Spoiler alert: it’s a good thing when both of your team’s lines are dominant.)
