Eagles Predicted to Sign All-Pro Free Agent to $16 Million Deal

The Philadelphia Eagles may have won Super Bowl LIX a few months ago, but they have been quite busy when it comes to restocking their roster for another title run this offseason. And while the start of a new campaign is drawing near, the Eagles may not be done making moves just yet, as they have been predicted to sign a former All-Pro cornerback who recently got released by the Green Bay Packers.

Jaire Alexander

While Philadelphia’s offense draws a lot of attention with their big-play ability, their defense was just as important to their championship victory over the Kansas City Chiefs back in February. And if they decide to sign Jaire Alexander after his tenure with the Packers came to an end earlier this month, the Eagles could add to a spot that is already looking very strong heading into 2025.

Eagles Predicted to Sign Jaire Alexander in Free Agency

Alexander broke into the NFL after he was selected by the Packers with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2018 draft, and he quickly turned himself into one of the top corners in the league. Alexander’s best season came in 2020 when he racked up 51 tackles, one interception, 13 pass breakups, and a sack in 15 games of action. When all was said and done that year, he earned his first Pro Bowl selection and a spot on the All-Pro Second Team.

Since then, though, things haven’t gone as well for Alexander. While he did earn another Pro Bowl and All-Pro Second Team selection in 2022, in the three other seasons since 2020, he’s played in just 18 total games. With Green Bay unable to trade their former star defender, they opted to release him in an effort to save some money on their 2025 salary cap.

While the Packers are done with Alexander, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The Eagles are one of several teams with interest in Alexander, as they could use a third corner to work alongside their second-year duo of Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. With that in mind, Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports recently predicted that the Eagles would sign Alexander to a one-year, $16 million contract now that he’s a free agent.

“The Philadelphia Eagles are due for a splash, though, and Alexander, who just happened to be born in Philly, would give them a higher-upside rental for their title-winning secondary,” Benjamin wrote when explaining his reasoning.

Could Eagles Sign Jaire Alexander?

Jaire Alexander of Green Bay Packers

While Mitchell and DeJean are already in place, the latter typically operates as the team’s nickel back, meaning the Eagles would ideally have another corner in place to start alongside Mitchell. Kelee Ringo is currently lined up to be the boundary starter opposite of Mitchell, but he’s only started five of the 34 games he’s played in over the first two seasons of his career.

The former fourth-round pick Ringo has upside, but bringing in a proven stud like Alexander could be the more prudent path forward for Philadelphia. The price may be high, and there will surely be competition from other teams for his signature, but if the Eagles want to tidy up their secondary, bringing Alexander to town may not be a bad idea.
