Philadelphia Eagles have hired Montgomery VanGorder from Georgia’s football program, adding him as an offensive assistant to their staff. This move, first reported by 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz on Thursday, brings a young but accomplished coach with championship experience to Philadelphia and further cements the Eagles’ reputation as “Georgia North.”

VanGorder joins Philadelphia after six successful seasons as an assistant on Kirby Smart’s coaching staff at Georgia. Described as a “leading figure” in the Bulldogs’ quarterback group, VanGorder most recently served as offensive quality control coach in 2024. His tenure in Athens coincided with Georgia’s dominant stretch that included back-to-back national championships in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

A former quarterback himself, VanGorder played for Notre Dame from 2014-17 before finishing his collegiate career at Youngstown State in 2018. The Buford, Georgia, native returned to his home state in 2019 to begin his coaching career. Football excellence runs in the family—he is the son of Brian VanGorder, who served as Georgia’s defensive coordinator under Mark Richt from 2001-04.

VanGorder’s hiring continues Philadelphia’s well-established pattern of tapping into Georgia’s elite program. Eagles have earned the “Georgia North” moniker in recent years due to their consistent drafting of Bulldogs standouts. The pipeline began flowing steadily when Philadelphia selected defensive tackle Jordan Davis in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

They doubled down in the same draft by adding linebacker Nakobe Dean in the third round. The connection strengthened further in 2023 when Philadelphia selected defensive tackle Jalen Carter and edge rusher Nolan Smith with two first-round picks.

This Georgia-to-Philadelphia trend has proven beneficial, bringing championship-caliber talent and mentality to the Eagles’ roster. Now, by hiring VanGorder, the organization is extending this philosophy to their coaching staff, further embracing the winning culture that has defined Georgia’s program under Smart.

With the addition of VanGorder, the “Georgia North” connection grows even stronger as Philadelphia continues to build a culture inspired by one of college football’s most successful programs.
