The win marked the first time the Lakers had started a season with two consecutive wins since the 2010-11 campaign. Dwight Howard, who played for the Purple and Gold in multiple stints, has a special connection with the team.

During this career, his most impressive years were with the Orlando Magic, where he earned six All-Star appearances, won three Defensive Player of the Year awards, and led the team to the 2009 NBA Finals. However, he also had notable seasons with the Lakers, particularly in 2012-13 alongside the late Kobe Bryant .

Despite his decline by the time he rejoined the Lakers in 2019, Howard contributed to the team’s 17th championship title in 2020, playing in 18 of 21 playoff games. Lakers fans remember him also for his beef with Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal.

Kevin Durant helpless as Lakers mount thrilling comeback victory

It was never in the cards as well as the Los Angeles Lakers pulled off an impressive comeback victory over the Phoenix Suns on Friday. They overcame a 22-point deficit to win 123-116, as AD led the charge and finished with 35 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

On the other hand, Kevin Durant put up impressive numbers for the Suns, as he scored 30 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out six assists in 39 minutes. However, it wasn’t enough to secure the win as the Lakers’ rally proved decisive.

Just mutual respect. Just friends. Somebody that I can relate too. We even had deep conversations about a lot of different things in life. It’s good to be able to have somebody in life you can compete with on that level. Somebody you can actually bounce ideas off of too. It just makes you a better human being overall.

The victory improved the Lakers to 2-0 on the season, while the Suns dropped to 1-1. Both teams will be in action again on Saturday, with the Lakers hosting crosstown rivals, the Sacramento Kings, and the Suns face last season’s NBA Finalists, the Dallas Mavericks in their home opener.
