Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill Out with Undisclosed Injury

On Wednesday, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was absent from practice due to an undisclosed injury. Head coach Mike McDaniel addressed reporters before the session, but didn’t talk about Hill’s status.

C. Isaiah Smalls II of the Miami Herald posted the news on X.

“Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill is not at practice with an undisclosed injury,” he posted.

Hopefully there will be an update after practice on the extent of Hill’s issue. It’s assumed that McDaniel would have addressed it directly if it was something serious and/or long-term. Hill dealt this a wrist injury last season, but it’s not known if today’s absence is related to that.

Hill just talked about the importance of practice

It was only last week that Hill talked about his renewed dedication to the Dolphins and how he actually takes notes and stuff in meetings now.

“Just showing up, man,” Hill said. “You know, I feel like that’s the most important thing: being consistent. Coming out here, working every day hard, just trying to get back to that old form of myself, man. I think that’s very important. Just holding myself accountable, man.

“I’m just trying to be the best teammate, best version of myself for this team I can be, man. Every day showing up to meetings, coming out here every day, busting my tail in practice. I think it’s important, man.”

Since then, Hill showed up late to practice on Sunday (missed team stretching) and now is out with an undisclosed injury.

Hill is also giving coaching advice

Today’s absence from training camp practice really isn’t a big deal (provided his injury isn’t serious). But, it all looks bad for Hill when he basically said after last season that he wanted out of town, then had to issue a public apology and then talked about how he wants to stay and that he’s finally committed to the team. These little things can add up to a headache potentially.

So, throw on top of that his comments about what the team should do on third-and-short situations.

“Take De‘Von [Achane] out on third down — what?” Hill said last week. “That’s my honest opinion. If it’s third-and-short, he’s not a power back. I keep telling him that in the locker room, but he swears he’s a power back. I love De’Von, but if I’m being honest like that’s why you got Jaylen Wright, that’s why you got Ollie Gordon II, for those kind of situations.”

McDaniel was playful in his response, but you start to get the feeling that Hill’s act could be wearing thin (if it hasn’t worn thin already).

“I thought it was genius reporting by Tyreek, seeing how we had a short-yardage period that very day that you guys were in attendance for, and his suggestion was I guess congruent with [running backs coach Eric] Studesville — that’s exactly how we repped the backs in that short-yardage period that very day,” McDaniel said. “But we thought it was funny that he reported the news that wasn’t news on that practice day in that short-yardage period that you guys were all there, too, for.”

Outside of publicly stating that he wanted out of Miami earlier this year, none of these things taken individually is a big deal. The concern for the Dolphins should be the totality, especially at a time when many in the organization have talked about improving overall team discipline in 2025.
