The Miami Dolphins are entering a critical offseason with major expectations for 2025.
If the Dolphins take another step backward under Mike McDaniel and company next year, there’s a solid chance ownership blows up the entire operation and starts fresh.
Losing Tua Tagovailoa for four games this season proved to be a back-breaker for the Dolphins in 2024, as McDaniel’s high-potent offense plummeted to dead last in the NFL without their star QB under center.
Despite having elite skill players like Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Devon Achane on offense and a defense with elite talent in important areas, the Miami Dolphins fell short of expectations in 2024 and has to make a run in the playoffs next season to right the ship.
One of the biggest decisions for the franchise this offseason is the future of safety Jevon Holland, who is set to be a free agent.
In 60 career games, the former second-round pick has five interceptions, five forced fumbles and five sacks and is regarded as one of the top safeties available of the upcoming free agency class.
In 2023, PFF graded Holland as the NFL’s third-best safety , but this past season in 2024 with Anthony Weaver taking over as DC, Holland graded as the NFL’s 89th best safety.
Regardless of the inconsistent play throughout his career, Holland is predicted to get a contract similar to Minkah Fitzpatrick, who has a 4-year $73.6 million contract with the Steelers. That falls only behind Antoine Winfield Jr. and Derwin James.
When Dolphins GM Chris Grier was asked about Holland’s future at the end of the season, Grier didn’t say much to show his cards.
“Jevon’s been a good player here,” Grier said.
But Holland recently joined the Breakin’ House Rules podcast and gave a surprising answer about where he wants to be in the future.
“I’m also open to the possibility of being somewhere else,” Holland said. “I wouldn’t hate the idea of coming back, I wouldn’t hate the idea of leaving.”
