Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright didn’t hold back during a recent appearance on Kay Adams’ Up & Adams show.
“There’s a lot of people talking down on the Dolphins, but we’re going to show everybody this year.”
Wright’s words didn’t just make for a good appearance, it captured the realism of the team’s attitude heading into the 2025 season.
With some major offseason moves behind them, the Dolphins appear ready to prove the doubters wrong.
For better or worse.
Dolphins Fueled By Momentum
During Wright’s appearance on the Up & Adams show, Kay Adams made a crucial observation.
“Maybe people didn’t see what I saw down the stretch last year, but 6-3 to finish last year, something was starting to happen there.”
That kind of finish can translate well into the offseason and produce results heading into the new season.
For a team with many ups and downs over the 2024 season, leaning into their down-the-stretch success shows a team growing into themselves.
Additionally, it can also mean silencing the criticisms the Dolphins have faced.
Adams also mentioned how the Dolphins “staying under the radar” would serve the Dolphins better to start the season.
Even though Miami has made some blockbuster moves this offseason, the narrative surrounding those moves looks to be a negative.
The Dolphins sent cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to Pittsburgh in return for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a pick swap.
Moreover, the Dolphins went out and bagged TE Darren Waller to help replace Smith’s production.
While these moves may be seen as a loss for the Dolphins, it could actually be right where Miami wants the national narrative to sit.
2025 Season Will Define Miami’s Future
There is no denying the importance of the upcoming season in South Florida.
This season will determine if the Dolphins can truly prove the critics wrong and whether their offseason moves were right.
The Dolphins front office has faced some heat this offseason, and they know a lot is riding on what is shown on the field.
Offensively, HC Mike McDaniel must revive his once-potent offense and ignite QB Tua Tagovailoa back into the quarterback spotlight.
It remains to be seen if Darren Waller can fill the void Jonnu Smith has left.
If Waller can find the same success he had with the Las Vegas Raiders, it will help immensely to free both Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle to burn defensive backfields.
On the defensive side, Mikah Fitzpatrick returns to the team that drafted him and will need to gain leadership of a secondary that took a hit a the cornerback position.
The Dolphins will need to lean on their defensive front and the pass-rush of Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips.
The Dolphins aren’t screaming for attention —and that’s why they could make some noise this season.
They are looking to build off their strong 2024 season finish, bold offseason moves and have young players like Jalen Wright speaking with conviction.
And if Wright is right, the Dolphins will be screaming for attention this time next year.
