Detroit Lions Announce Change for Wide Receiver Jameson Williams on Thursday

The Detroit Lions had an incredible 2024 campaign, finishing with a 15-2 regular season record, claiming the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Wide receiver Jameson Williams played a vital role in their high powered offense, finishing with his first 1,000 yard season of his young NFL career.

Detroit Lions Announce Change for Wide Receiver Jameson Williams on Thursday

This season, he will don a new number as they try to reclaim the No. 1 seed in the NFC and make a run for the Super Bowl.

The Lions have announced multiple jersey changes for the season, and Jameson Williams will be wearing the No. 1 on his jersey, the same number he wore as a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

He joins multiple other former Alabama members changing their numbers on the Lions, with Jahmyr Gibbs and Terrion Arnold changing their numbers to No. 0 and No. 6 respectively.

Williams has been an unbelievable weapon for Dan Campbell's high-powered offense. His explosiveness and big-play ability make him dangerous for any team, especially when he is on the same offense as Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, Sam LaPorta, and David Montgomery.

The No. 1 is becoming more popular amongst receivers, most notably worn by Ja'Marr Chase, who just signed a massive deal with the Cincinnati Bengals.

In 2021, the NFL changed their rules on what numbers certain positions can wear. Prior to the 2021 season, wide receivers could only wear between 10-19 and 80-89. Now, they are allowed to wear any numbers between 0-49 and 80-89.

Jameson Williams is now able to wear his old college number, and hopes to recreate his Tuscaloosa magic in another promising year for the Detroit Lions.
