Daniel Jones’ tumultuous journey with the New York Giants reached its conclusion last week when the quarterback was released following a season marred by benchings and uncertainty.
Once considered the future of the franchise, Jones now finds himself a free agent after clearing waivers. While his time in New York fell short of expectations, the 27-year-old quarterback is drawing significant interest from playoff contenders, including the Baltimore Ravens, according to reports from NFL insiders.
In addition to the Ravens, teams like the Vikings, 49ers, Lions, and Dolphins are also reportedly in the mix. Each franchise offers unique opportunities, but Baltimore’s combination of playoff contention and offensive system could make it one of the most intriguing destinations for Jones as he looks to reset his career.
The Ravens are set at the top of their depth chart with Lamar Jackson, but the backup quarterback situation leaves a lot to be desired. Josh Johnson, a 38-year-old journeyman, is currently listed as the backup, but Baltimore may want a more dynamic (and playable) option behind Jackson.
That’s where Daniel Jones fits into the picture.
Jones’ mobility and experience as a starter make him an attractive option for the Ravens’ offense. His best season came in 2022, when he threw for over 3,200 yards, rushed for 700 yards, and led the Giants to a playoff victory. While he struggled with consistency in New York, his skill set aligns well with what Baltimore values in a quarterback. Signing Jones would give the Ravens a reliable contingency plan who can step in if needed without disrupting the offensive system.
The Ravens aren’t the only team exploring the possibility of adding Jones. The Vikings, who are navigating life without Kirk Cousins, could see Jones as a valuable depth piece for the postseason. The 49ers, dealing with Brock Purdy’s shoulder injury, are another logical fit, given their history of needing multiple quarterbacks during a season.
The Lions and Dolphins are also contenders that could benefit from having a proven backup with starting experience.
As Jordan Schultz noted, “There has been significant interest in former Giants QB Daniel Jones since his release. Once he clears waivers, expect the Ravens, Vikings, Lions, 49ers, and Dolphins to pursue him—not only for a chance to join a contending team but also to develop in an offensive system where he can learn and grow.”
For the Ravens, signing Jones could be a smart, low-risk move. It would solidify their quarterback depth and ensure they’re prepared for anything as they gear up for the postseason. With interest building and multiple teams vying for his services, a decision on Jones’ next stop could come soon.
