Dallas Cowboys need to cut multiple players to finalize 90-man offseason roster, here are five candidates

Dallas Cowboys need to cut multiple players to finalize 90-man offseason roster, here are five candidates

While it's only part of the process of every offseason, signing nine UDFAs was relevant for a simple reason: Once those deals are made official, the roster would be at 95. That's four over the 90-man offseason limit, accounting for Denzel Daxon's international player roster exemption.

That means cuts are coming soon for the Cowboys roster and I'm listing five candidates to be early cuts this year, probably within days.

For this exercise, I'm excluding UDFAs recently signed and instead focusing on players at positions who might've been impacted by recent additions: Wide receiver, offensive line, and defensive line. It's a numbers game, after all.

Wide receiver (3)

  • Seth Williams
  • Jalen Cropper
  • Kelvin Harmon

Though the Cowboys didn't draft a wide receiver, they impacted the bottom of the depth chart by signing a couple of UDFAs at the position. That includes Oregon's Traeshon Holden, who will be reuniting with his WR coach Junior Adams, who was hired to Dallas' staff by head coach Brian Schottenheimer earlier in the year.

Currently, the Cowboys are at 12 wide receivers and I expect casualties here. The above are three candidates that could be at the bottom of the depth chart.

Offensive line (1)

  • Jack Anderson

The Cowboys signed three free agent offensive linemen and drafted another two in the last couple of months. That could translate to some early cuts in the trenches but not many considering the team needs the bodies for training camp. Jack Anderson has three starts in three years in the league and he has the least likely path to the 53-man roster. When he has played, it's been at guard and the Cowboys are loaded with depth there.

Defensive line (1)

  • Luiji Vilain (DE)

Similarly to Anderson, Vilain looks like the odd man out considering he has played five games in two years in the NFL. The Cowboys' edge rusher room is shaping up to be a roster strength and it's getting crowded in there.
