Dallas Cowboys Fans React To Shocking Inter-Division Trade (Report)

The Dallas Cowboys aren’t going to let last year’s playoff disappointment damper their expectations in 2024.  Dallas has won 12 games in each of the last three seasons and absolutely feel they can do it again this season.

However, Dallas agreed to an inter-division trade prior to the start of the season that didn’t cost them much more than a late round draft pick.

Our very own Andrew Kusleika covered the move earlier today:

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Giants are sending veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips to the Cowboys.

In exchange for a veteran defensive tackle who was a second-round pick from the Oklahoma Sooners, the Cowboys are giving the Giants a sixth-round pick in exchange for a seventh-round pick.

The Giants signed Phillips after the conclusion of the 2023 season but ended up trading him away to the Cowboys before he could see the field.

Had Phillips stayed with the Giants he would have provided value as an interior depth piece among one of the most fearsome defensive lines in the NFL. Now, he will do the same among a young interior defensive line that could use a veteran presence.

The Dallas Cowboys have elite edge rushers on their defensive line including veteran defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence and All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons.

The Cowboys have promising young interior defensive linemen like Mazi Smith and Osa Odighizuwa, but they will benefit greatly from someone like Phillips, who will bring an experienced veteran presence as well as on-field impact as a depth piece.

Phillips will be 32-years-old in September and has 62 starts under his belt. The Sooners product has played in 120 NFL games, spending the last two seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills.

Phillips, who played for the Miami Dolphins and the Arizona Cardinals as well, has accrued 24 career sacks since being drafted in 2015. The veteran defensive tackle has 181 career tackles and is approaching a decade in the league.
