Cowboys urged to stop dragging their feet on the move fans knew was obvious

There probably won't be a ton of Dallas Cowboys news between now and training camp. At least, that's the hope – typically, when your favorite NFL team is making headlines in mid-June, it's not a good thing.

The Cowboys have had an eventful-enough offseason, and the very beginnings of the Brian Schottenheimer era has gone as well as possible considering they haven't, you know, played any actual games yet.

In fact, there's really only one thing left on the imaginary checklist of offseason chores that permanently lives front of mind in every Cowboys fan: extending Micah Parsons. The Parsons extension has been an A-block topic on basically every morning sports show for the past three months, and in typical Dallas fashion, there does not seem to be any sort of rush to get it done. And according to Bleacher Report, it's the one move holding back a defense that finished 28th in the NFL last year.

The Cowboys waiting to extend Micah Parsons is franchise malpractice

"Dallas must also work out a new long-term deal with pass-rusher Micah Parsons. The four-time Pro Bowler is entering a contract year, deserves a new deal and could potentially hold out during camp without one. He attended mandatory minicamp but did not practice. With $32.5 million in cap space, the Cowboys should get the ball rolling on a deal to make Parsons the league's highest-paid defender. Otherwise, they could try to fetch a massive return by placing him on the trade market. Once Dallas has sorted out Parsons' situation, it should seek additional help for a run defense that ranked 30th in yards per carry allowed last season. Players like C.J. Mosley and Raekwon Davis could help strengthen the depth of Dallas' front seven."

I personally would extremely not trade Micah Parsons, but I guess I get Bleacher Report's larger point – something's gotta give.

It certainly seems like Jerry Jones and the Cowboys' front office are following the same playbook they almost always do, and that Parsons will probably line up in Week 1 as a very rich man, but to B/R's point, you just never really know. They've done this with most of their biggest stars throughout the Jerry Jones era, and it typically finds a way to get done. No one likes it, but the success rate is hard to argue against.

So, you probably have 4-6 weeks left of "First Take" Parsons segments, but that's a small price to pay for another half-decade of Parsons dominance. Maybe.
