Cowboys’ Jerry Jones Makes 2 Major Calls On Dak and Schotty

The Dallas Cowboys on Friday executed two massively important calls.

The first was the hiring of new head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

The second was to quarterback Dak Prescott - a phone call to inform him of a decision that the quarterback is surely celebrating.

Ignore the lost season of 2024 (as departed coach Mike McCarthy would surely wish to) when "Blow It Up'' and a season-ending hamstring injury in Week 9 to Dak crated the year as Dallas finished at 7-10.

Hang your hat, instead, on 2023, when in "Schotty's'' first year here as the offensive coordinator under McCarthy, Prescott put up monster numbers and finished second only to Lamar Jackson in MVP voting.

The Cowboys have interviewed four candidates for the vacant position, including Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier, Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, former Jets head coach Robert Saleh and the incumbant offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

Prescott clearly endorsed at least one of these options.

Clarence Hill Jr. revealed on the "DLLS Cowboys Podcast'' that Dak told him of Schottenheimer, "He'll be ready for the next step. He has the right personality and brain."

This move wasn't made without Dak in mind - indeed, we're pretty sure Dak had some input with Jerry and Stephen Jones here. That's why it all adds up that right after the decision was finalized, per the Dallas News, Prescott got a phone call to let him in one the (good?) news.

"Schottenheimer, along with Jerry and Stephen Jones, called QB Dak Prescott once the deal was complete,'' writes David Moore.

Schottenheimer began his coordinator path in 2006 with the New York Jets, helping them make the AFC Championship Game in the 2010 season. He had success as a coordinator in Seattle and eventually joined Dallas in 2022 as a coaching analyst under mentor McCarthy before the promotion in 2023.

As the group phone call shows, this is very much a "Dak-friendly'' hire ... with the next question to be answered: Will it ever be a Cowboys Nation-friendly hire?
