The Denver Broncos era under Sean Payton are preparing for a moment not many saw coming early into his tenure.
Early into the 2023 season, Sean Payton’s spell as Denver Broncos head coach was shaping up as a disaster, allowing an embarrassing 70 points against the Miami Dolphins.
To Payton’s credit, he rallied his team back from that low point, and they ended last season with an ounce of respectability, that they have been able to build on.
Inspired by rookie quarterback Bo Nix, the Broncos were able to make the play-offs, and are gearing up for a shot at the Buffalo Bills.
Part of Bo Nix’s success has been down to wide receiver Courtland Sutton, who has had to put up with some inefficient quarterback play through the years.
Sutton went on to put up 1,081 yards, his highest output since 2019, from a career-high 135 targets, bringing down 8 touchdowns along the way.
To get to this point has been a success for the Broncos – but Sutton is determined that the team are not seen as lucky to merely be in the playoffs.
Sutton told reporters: “I think one of the biggest misconceptions about this opportunity that we have is everyone feels like the Broncos are happy and satisfied with just making the playoffs.
“It’s not about just making the playoffs.”
In a warning to the Bills, he believes anything can happen in the upcoming encounter.
“The records are 0-0 and it’s showing up, we want to go and play four quarters and some if you need to, and letting the best team win.”
The Broncos went 2-2 across their final four games, and they arrive in the playoffs feeling capable of going toe-to-toe with anybody.
It would be a surprise if they won against the Bills – but they are clearly full of confidence after a blowout win that embarrassed the Chiefs.
Patrick Mahomes did not start the 38-0 loss for the Chiefs – but the way the Broncos dispatched with them was truly ruthless, and a great way to build a feelgood factor ahead of the playoffs.
