The Los Angeles Rams have re-signed former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon. Witherspoon will return for a third year with the team he signed with in 2022 after the Steelers released him.
Witherspoon played in 13 games for the Rams, grabbing one interception while making nine pass deflections. Teams tested Witherspoon frequently, but he rose to that challenge and proved to be a ballhawk for the Rams.
Over his two seasons with the Rams, he has 23 pass deflections and four interceptions. That has allowed Witherspoon to entrench himself as a dependable player in the Rams organization.
He played two seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2021 to 2022. The team acquired him from the Seattle Seahawks after he signed in Seattle, but was not the ideal fit for Pete Carroll’s system. Pittsburgh allowed Witherspoon to catch up to speed, but once active, he caught heat. Witherspoon nabbed three interceptions in three starts and earned a two-year contract.
The next year, Witherspoon played just four games as he dealt with a nagging hamstring injury that landed him on injured reserve twice. He had just one interception and was released after the season. Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 2017 out of Colorado, he spent the first four seasons of his career with San Francisco.
