Connor McDavid Makes Bold Comments Ahead of Game 1 Against the LA Kings After Crushing Cup Finals Loss

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid doesn't want his team dwelling on their accomplishments from last year, as they have no bearing on this year.

Last spring, the Edmonton Oilers came within one single victory of claiming the franchise's 1st Stanley Cup win since the end of their dynasty in 1990.

The sight of Oilers captain Connor McDavid's heartbroken demeanor in the immediate aftermath of their difficult 2-1 loss to the Florida Panthers followed by his tears in the locker room afterward will remain with Oilers fans for a long time.

Edmonton has the chance to go on another run this year, having punched their ticket back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Once again, they'll face the Los Angeles Kings in the opening round; this time, the Kings will have home ice advantage.

McDavid doesn't want his teammates dwelling on what they were able to accomplish last year, as it has no bearing on what's going on currently.

Last year doesn't mean anything, it's a new year and a new round, a new series. Last year doesn't mean anything; it was a great experience to lean on, but gotta be ready for a real, real good L.A. team, and we're excited for the challenge.
It's a hopeful time for everyone, that's the best way to describe it. Everyone has high hopes for a deep run, all 16 teams that make it. It takes a lot of work to get to this point, all 16 teams believe that they have a chance, all of them believe they're a good team and have the pieces to do it. We're no different.

The Kings and Oilers will begin their series from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles starting Monday night.
