Commanders Rookie RB Trey Benson Is Turning Heads at Camp — “He's a Beast!”

When the Washington Commanders selected Trey Benson in the 2025 NFL Draft, fans were cautiously optimistic. Today, that caution is fading fast — replaced by excitement, praise, and a whole lot of buzz coming straight from training camp.

The rookie running back out of Florida State is putting on a show, and it's not just the coaches noticing. Teammates, beat reporters, and even veteran defenders are raving about his explosive cuts, powerful runs, and NFL-ready mindset. One anonymous teammate reportedly said, “Trey runs like he’s angry at the ground. He hits the hole like a truck and just doesn’t stop. He’s a beast.”

In a camp full of competition and fresh faces, Benson has become a standout. Whether it’s breaking tackles during red zone drills or juking linebackers in open-field reps, he’s proving every day that he's more than just another rookie — he’s a real threat in the Commanders’ backfield.

Head Coach Dan Quinn, never one for hyperbole, told reporters: “Trey’s making the most of every rep. He runs with purpose. He studies like a vet. There’s something special there — and we see it.”

While Brian Robinson Jr. and Antonio Gibson are still expected to shoulder a heavy load this season, the door is clearly open for Benson to carve out a significant role, especially if he keeps producing like this. His versatility — both as a runner and receiver — gives Washington an extra weapon they desperately need.

But more than just the numbers and plays, it’s the energy he brings. The way Benson celebrates with teammates, encourages the second unit, and stays late after practice shows a maturity far beyond his years.

“He doesn’t just want to make the team,” said one assistant coach. “He wants to make a difference.”

At this rate, he just might.
