Cole Kmet's brutally honest post-game comments define broken Bears' culture

For a team that has been in the middle of a losing streak for the past two months of the NFL season, the Chicago Bears locker room sure has done a lot of talking.

Of course, when Matt Eberflus named eight team captains at the beginning of the season, the former head coach was setting the stage for the players' voice to become more important than the message that was being had in the locker room.

With their 34-17 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, the Bears have now lost nine consecutive games. The three most recent losses have come after the team got its wish and Eberflus was fired.

With Thomas Brown winless in his first three games as the interim head coach of the Bears, and the team looking as if they quit each of those games, any message that the players have seems to be falling on deaf ears.

Fortunately, one of the Bears' captains, Cole Kmet finally got hint that the fanbase is tired of the noise coming from the locker room.

"It's not good enough."

Kmet's comments on Sunday come one week after he expressed frustration with the effort players were having. While not naming names, after the Bears' loss to the Minnesota Vikings last Monday night, Kmet was deflated in saying that he can no longer worry about the effort levels of others on the team.

Whether the next Bears head coach is Ben Johnson or a leader of men such as Mike Vrabel, the fact of the matter is they will be taking over a broken team. In contrast, as well as an indictment of Bears' general manager Ryan Poles, look at the culture Dan Quinn built for the Washington Commanders in his first season with the team.

Quinn was a finalist for the Bears' opening when Poles, in his first decision as general manager of the Bears, decided to hire Eberflus as the team's head coach in 2022.
