The Kansas City Chiefs enter Week 6 of the 2024 NFL season with one of the best defenses in the league. The defending Super Bowl Champions are tied for allowing the fifth-fewest points per game through five weeks and have also surrendered the ninth-fewest yards overall.

Having said that, there's nothing wrong with trying to get better — especially if it helps to pull off a championship three-peat. Fortunately, the perfect potential defensive addition has just become available for the Chiefs to sign.

On Friday, NFL insider Mike Garafolo revealed that free agent linebacker Jabril Cox has been cleared to return from his groin injury. The veteran defender was released by the Minnesota Vikings via injury settlement back in August only a few weeks after signing with the franchise.

According to Garafolo, Cox is "expected to work out for teams in the near future." If that's the case, the Chiefs should be all over this opportunity.

For starters, Cox has local ties to the area. He was born in Kansas City before becoming an All-State standout at Raytown South High School. He then played college football at North Dakota State and LSU before being drafted 115th overall by the Dallas Cowboys in 2021.

When it comes to his NFL experience, Cox has played 26 games without a start between the Cowboys and Washington Commanders. The former MVFC Defensive Player of the Year tallied seven solo tackles in those appearances while playing 511-of-557 (91.7%) of snaps on special teams.

Joining the Chiefs could potentially help Cox take his game to the next level. Not only would playing for his hometown team provide motivation, but he'd also get to work with head coach Andy Ready and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who have an excellent track record at developing defensive talent.

Champions are won thanks to reliable depth and Cox is talented enough to lend a helping hand in Kansas City. For now, the Chiefs are currently FanDuel Sportsbook's +500 favorites to win Super Bowl LIX.
