Chiefs Rookie Reacts to Kansas City’s Special Message After Heroics vs. Panthers

It wasn't the prettiest of wins for the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday as the two-time defending champs barely escaped with a 30-27 victory against the now 3-8 Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium.

The Chiefs entered the fourth quarter with a seemingly safe 27-16 advantage, only for the Panthers to come roaring back in the final frame. The home team capped off their 11-point quarter to tie the game at 27-27 with less than two minutes remaining after a successful two-point attempt.

Kansas City needed a last-second field goal from 31 yards out to secure the win, with rookie Spencer Shrader stepping up to the plate in crunch time. The 25-year-old was kicking in the place of the injured Harrison Butker, and Shrader convincingly made a name for himself on Sunday.

The Chiefs took to social media to flex the hard-fought victory, which gave them their 10th win of the season. The Instagram post included a special shoutout for Shrader, who emerged as the hero of Sunday's game.

"Goodnight to everyone, but especially Spencer Shrader See y'all Friday, Chiefs Kingdom!" the post read.

Shrader caught wind of the shoutout, and he responded with a strong declaration about the Chiefs.

"I love this team," commented the former South Florida and Notre Dame star.

Shrader did not have a single field goal attempt during his Chiefs debut as Kansas City suffered their first loss of the season against the Buffalo Bills on Nov. 17. He went 3-of-3 on Sunday, though, including the game-winning field goal with two seconds remaining in the game.

Shrader also made all three of his extra-point attempts against the Panthers in what turned out to be a strong performance for the rookie.

After brief stints with the Indianapolis Colts and the New York Jets this season, it appears that Shrader has finally found a home in Kansas City.
