Chiefs cut ties with former Pittsburgh Steelers kicker

The Kansas City Chiefs have cut former Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Matthew Wright after the return of kicker Harrison Butker. Butker was activated from injured reserve and is back after missing over a month after having surgery for a torn meniscus in his knee.

During his time as the team’s kicker, Wright helped propel the Chiefs to multiple wins, and might have earned himself a spot on another team moving forward. That included a 4/4 performance against the Los Angeles Chargers that helped propel the Chiefs to a divisional title.

The 26 year old has been a journeyman kicker and this is his second stint with the Chiefs, his first coming in 2021. An undrafted kicker out of UCF, the Steelers have brought Wright in multiple times for training camp. He helped kicker Chris Boswell have a lighter workload this summer as the Steelers have changed how Boswell works to make sure his body is in great shape.
