Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles drops massive quote on Ben Johnson’s no nonsense approach

During the 2024 season, the Chicago Bears suffered one ost the most brutal collapses in recent years for any Chicago sports team. Following the loss to the Washington Commanders due to a game-losing hail mary, the Bears lost ten straight games. The impact that game had on the team was obvious to everyone.

Multiple embarrassing losses continued due to terrible coaching and players giving up. Former head coach Matt Eberflus and former offensive coordinator Shane Waldron got fired, and the Bears ended the season at 5-12, after a 4-2 start to the season.

In a new interview on ESPN 1000’s Kap and J-Hood show, Bears general manager Ryan Poles discussed how new head coach Ben Johnson will make sure nothing like this ever happens again.

On ESPN 1000, Poles was asked about the team’s 2024 collapse and if a situation like this would be a problem for a first-time NFL head coach. Poles shut that down fast.

Poles explained to Kaplan and Hood that this will not be a problem for the new Bears coach.

“That will be no problem for Ben Johnson. I can guarantee you that. There is no gray with him. It’s black or white. He addresses things head on and has no issues bringing those things to the surface”.

Poles expects Johnson to address problems head-on and take more accountability, something that former coach Matt Eberflus was unable to do. Eberflus was heavily criticized by fans and even players for being unable to hold himself and his coaching staff accountable during his time with the Bears.

Another interesting aspect of Poles’ interview was the praise that he had for the coaching staff that Johnson put together.

Poles explained to ESPN 1000 that he expects the issues that happened with the previous coaching staff not to happen again.

“When you’re building a staff, I thought he did a great job putting his staff together. If there’s something on their mind, if they see something that that isn’t being done the right way, it’s going to be called out immediately. And they’ll get a little uncomfortable. I have no issues and don’t see any issues moving forward”.

It’s nice to see that the Bears are doing everything they can to make sure that nothing similar to last season happens again.

Hopefully, the Bears can get back on track and contend for the playoffs in 2025.
