The Boston Celtics have reshaped their roster significantly this summer — and the front office still isn’t done tinkering.
While the team has made bold moves, they’ve also suffered notable losses. Between Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, Luke Kornet, and Jrue Holiday, Boston has watched some of its most reliable veterans walk out the door.
Now, the Celtics are actively weighing options to address their frontcourt depth — and one of the most intriguing names could be someone already in their building.
Celtics Still Need Frontcourt Depth

Bassey, who joined Boston’s Summer League roster late, quietly impressed. He averaged 15.3 points and 11 rebounds per game, showing mobility, rebounding, and rim protection — all things the team will sorely miss after its offseason departures.
A Celtics front office executive admitted the interest is real.
“Considering he got added to our team so late, this was an awesome run for him. No idea if we’ll have roster space for him or not. But we’d love to keep working with Charles and see if we can make something work,” a team executive told Spotrac.
That quote might sound noncommittal, but in the current cap climate, every minimum signing counts — and Bassey may have earned himself a serious shot.
Boston’s Cap Goals Still In Play
The primary objective remains clear. Get under the second tax apron. The Celtics are reportedly one player away from achieving that goal. If they can move off one more contract — ideally via trade — it opens the door for a signing like Bassey.
A low-cost deal could shore up the big man rotation. It wouldn’t force Boston to give up assets. Or take on more long-term money. It’s the type of move that makes sense as the Celtics gear up to navigate what could be a transitional year — a move that could quietly pay off down the stretch.
Bassey, originally a 2021 second-round pick by the Philadelphia 76ers, has bounced around in short stints with the Spurs and 76ers. But the 23-year-old may have found the right situation in Boston, just when they need someone like him the most.
