The waivers have been heavily used over the last few days, but it's been a while since we've seen a formal claim.

Bruins put the Canucks in a tough spot: Patera headed to Boston

The Bruins' fiasco with Jeremey Swayman isn't resolved and they needed a solution. The Canucks handed them, on a silver platter, a solution for their problem. Patrik Allvin placed four veterans on waivers for the purpose of assignment to Abbotsford, including the recently signed netminder Jiri Patera. According to sources, the Bruins claimed Patera off of waivers:

It was clear that Patera was always destined for Abbotsford, but losing him this close to the season's debut places the Canucks in tough spot. They may have to give a chance to a younger player, or perhaps sign a veteran to another veteran to a two-way deal.

Patera gone: Three others clear

In better news, Rick Dhaliwal confirmed that Phil Di Giuseppe, Nathan Smith and Christian Wolanin had cleared waivers and would be reporting to Abbotsford.

The Canucks' goaltending chart now consists of Thatcher Demko (injured), Arturs Silovs, Kevin Lankinen, Nikita Tolopilo and Ty Young. The initial belief is that the Canucks will be looking to replace Patera to have a veteran working alongside Tolopilo in Abbotsford, we'll keep you posted.
