Thatcher Demko inked an extension with Vancouver this off-season, and now, he's opened up on his love for the team and the city after doing so, declaring he would have signed for 20 years if he could have.
After a tumultuous 18 months with injury, Thatcher Demko finally managed to get healthy late in the 2024/25 campaign, and while there's still worry about his ability to stay healthy, he signed a brand new deal with the Vancouver Canucks recently.
The deal is for three-years, carrying an average annual value of $8.5 million, with Vancouver seemingly believing that with him now locked in, they are a threat to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2026.
Now, the veteran goaltender has opened up on his new deal.
It's safe to say that he's incredibly happy to remain with the only NHL franchise he's known throughout his career thus far.
'I would sign for 20 years in Vancouver if I could have.I've always wanted to be there my whole career. I think there's a bit of a dying breed of guys that get drafted somewhere and want to see it through no matter what adversity hits.'
In his comments, Demko addresses adversity, something that this team and he himself have dealt with plenty of in recent times, but throughout it all, the former second-round pick has wanted to remain and work through it.
Only time will tell whether the moves this team have made in the past 18 months will be worth it as we head into the 2025/26 campaign, but with both goaltenders locked in and a locker room that could now be drama free, this is certainly a team to keep an eye on.
