The NFL life seems to be slowing down for the rookie first overall pick and Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams.
After a shaky start to his rookie campaign, Williams has been playing his best ball over the last three games and is making a lot of people look really silly in the process.
Sunday's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in London was Williams' best game of his young career, a performance that continued to raise the bar for rookie quarterbacks.
Williams went 23/29 for 226 yards, four touchdowns and one interception while rushing for 56 yards on the ground. According to Greg Auman, Williams has the best completion percentage (79.3) ever for a rookie with four touchdown passes and 25+ pass attempts. What he's doing is simply incredible.
"He's always working and improving and growing," head coach Matt Eberflus said after the game. "This year is a big year for him to be able to learn the game up here. He's always been good enough in terms of the talent and those things, but he's learning the game and learning our offense and learning our skill sets that we have, and learning new things that they can do. A lot our guys have wide skill sets, so we want to utilize those guys skill sets to be able to widen that so we can really expand our offense as we go through the years. He's doing a good job with that."
Williams' supporting cast is certainly helping him in a big way to find consistent success but what he's been doing lately has truly been unique.
Following the win in Week 6, the Bears have now won three straight games and improved to 4-2 on the season. According to NFL345, Williams is the first number one overall quarterback in the common draft era to win four of his first six career starts.
A lot of the rookie hype over the first few weeks of the season was centered around the man selected after Williams in the draft, Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels has unquestionably been spectacular, but Williams is starting to close the gap quickly between the two.
Over his last three games, Williams has thrown for 687 yards, seven touchdowns, one interception and rushed for 102 yards. The best thing about his game has been his mentality. Even after the big win, the first thing Williams brought up was his mistakes.
"It felt great. I think obviously we got to keep getting better. I can't turn the ball over like that on a wide open touchdown to DJ [Moore]," Williams said. "A few things that were going on throughout the game that I gotta be better at. But I think the progress that we've had is going to keep growing."
That's the kind of mentality you want to see out of your quarterback and he truly means it. Every game has been a learning experience for Williams and he's built upon each game and improved from it.
Williams and Daniels will be unfairly compared to each other throughout the rest of the season, and likely their careers. Beyond the comparisons, you can't help but be impressed from the strides Williams has started to make.
