Browns HC Kevin Stefanski gives star QB a unique comparison to NBA star

It's hard to compare Patrick Mahomes' skillset and talent on a football field to any single player. However, Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski had one name that jumped out during an interview with 92.3 The Fan on Tuesday — only it wasn't a quarterback or even a football player, for that matter.

Browns' Stefanski gives star QB a unique comparison to NBA star

As Pro Football Talk highlighted, Stefanski compared the Kansas City Chiefs star to one of the NBA's most lethal scorers and best players in Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry.

“You know, it’s funny, it’s almost like — you know how Steph Curry changed basketball? I think Mahomes is changing football,” Stefanski said. “You watch quarterbacks come out and play that style, they comport themselves like him. So I would not be surprised if you started seeing that around, certainly, our league. You’re going to see kids in high school trying it."

It's a unique comparison but also one that's easy to agree with. Mahomes makes eye-opening plays and has drawn plenty of attention with his behind-the-back pass attempts. But as flashy as those moments are and as incredible as Mahomes is, his ability to win on the biggest stage stands out more than anything.

In his six seasons as a full-time starter, the Chiefs have made the Super Bowl four times, emerging victorious on three occasions, including each of the past two years. Mahomes has played in 96 regular-season games, throwing for 28,424 yards and 219 touchdowns.

However, his playoff dominance is even more impressive, with Mahomes posting a 15-3 record while throwing for 5,135 yards, 41 touchdown passes and just eight interceptions.
