Browns Corner Could Become 'Expendable' on Draft Day

The 2025 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and the Cleveland Browns could be active in the trade market.

Browns Corner Could Become 'Expendable' on Draft Day

In a recent report by ESPN's Adam Schefter, he says that Cleveland could make former first-round pick Greg Newsome II available in trades on draft day, as they have less of a need for him than they used to.

The concept was broached in a piece about which NFL players are "expendable'' ... Schefter's word choice.

It's a harsh word.

Is it an accurate one?

The young cornerback was the last player that the Browns selected in the first round back in 2021, and he had a solid few seasons to begin his career. But in 2023, the team drafted another young defensive back in Martin Emerson through the draft, and that has changed a lot.

In the 2023 season, Newsome started in 13 of the 14 games that he appeared in. But as Emerson began to settle into the NFL, he took some snaps away from Newsome, bringing down the number of games he started in 2024 to just three.

Newsome is 6-1, 192 pounds, and he uses that frame to his advantage when covering opposing receivers. His combination of speed and athleticism at his height could make him an intriguing trade target for any team that is in need of a cornerback on draft day.

The Browns will likely be looking to add as much young talent as possible through this year's draft, and they could trade Newsome away for more picks in order to do just that.
