Broncos player fined for ripping Jake Bobo’s helmet off

The Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos played a relatively clean football game in terms of overly physical play, but there were still a couple of fines issued by the NFL. Thankfully, neither one of them was on the Seahawks.

NFL fines Broncos' Brandon Jones for ripping helmet off Seahawks' Jake Bobo - Field Gulls

In the opening quarter, Broncos outside linebacker Nik Bonitto was flagged for roughing the passer on Geno Smith for a hit to the head/neck area. This is a reviewable play under the modified replay assist rule, but obviously this was not overturned. It’s far from egregious but it is nevertheless a roughing penalty, which will cost Bonitto $8,791.

Then there’s a play that was not flagged at the time but was retroactively ruled as unnecessary roughness on Broncos safety Brandon Jones. In the fourth quarter with the Seahawks backed up in their own territory, Jake Bobo was blocking Jones on what was a -4 yard rush for Kenneth Walker III. Bobo had his helmet grabbed and ripped off mid-play. As if that wasn’t enough, Charles Cross blocked John Franklin-Myers so well that he knocked Franklin-Myers into Bobo post-helmet rip.

Jones was fined $11,255 for this play.

And that’s the monetary damage out of this game. We’re onto Foxboro and the New England Patriots.
