The Green Bay Packers are experiencing their share of offseason challenges, much like many teams around the NFL. One of the biggest concerns involves their versatile, do-it-all cornerback—when healthy—Jaire Alexander. While the Packers are doing everything they can to resolve the situation, if no progress is made, a trade could be on the horizon.
Green Bay is set up for another promising season behind Jordan Love and a strong offensive unit. The defensive front remains a concern, but as long as the offense performs, the team should stay competitive. One standout so far has been recent draft pick Matthew Golden, who’s already turning heads in Green Bay and could potentially push a veteran wide receiver off the roster.
“The Packers picked the fastest receiver in the draft, Matthew Golden, and early returns from Green Bay say the rookie’s overall athleticism has already shown up," Albert Breer wrote. "It’ll be interesting to see whether a veteran receiver shakes free in a trade based on Golden’s development."
Meanwhile, it’s believed that Alexander and the Packers have been trying to reach a mutually beneficial contract agreement.
“On the contract front, the Packers could want a revised deal that allows Alexander -- who has missed at least 10 games in three of the last four seasons -- to earn his full salary if he's healthy and available in 2025 but protects the team in case the injuries continue,” Zach Kruse wrote.
Alexander has not reported to voluntary workouts—a move that usually raises red flags—but he remains in regular communication with the organization.
“Alexander has not reported to the Packers’ voluntary workouts, which would raise red flags over his status with the team. While speculation has run wild, passing game coordinator Derrick Ansley sang a different tune, telling ESPN’s Rob Demovsky that he’s been in contact with Alexander every day while skipping the offseason workouts,” Chris Schad wrote.
Alexander staying in contact is a positive sign. It appears he doesn’t want to leave Green Bay—he simply wants to work out a deal that works for both sides.
