Breaking: Cowboys Back Out Of Massive Trade At Last Minute (Report)

The Dallas Cowboys know that this season is going to be big for the future of their franchise.  After changing head coaches and getting a healthy Dak Prescott back, fans expect this team to compete for a playoff spot at minimum.  Missing the playoffs again could result in some big time changes within the organization.

According to reports, Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers discussed a trade that would have changed everything:

Both teams made a splash in the NFL Draft last week, with the Cowboys adding nine players while the Steelers recruited seven. Although they did not pick any names who immediately set their cities on fire, the teams addressed key areas of need, taking players who could fill voids in their offensive line and at the running back position.

Meanwhile, one insider is claiming that they began talks over a deal that would have landed Dallas a notable wide receiver who is one of the best in the league.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Cowboys were one of the teams that discussed a potential move for George Pickens ahead of the draft, though it’s now expected that talks will fizz out on the back of it.

“The Cowboys were one of the teams that discussed bringing in the Steelers’ wideout, sources tell me,” Russini shared via X on Tuesday.

Pickens’ future with the Steelers remains uncertain, given that they’ve brought in DK Metcalf as part of a trade with the Seattle Seahawks.

However, Steelers general manager Omar Khan suggested that the team is happy to keep Pickens and pair him with their new pass catcher after he was asked whether he would trade the wideout for a second pick, which is what they surrendered to acquire Metcalf.

“No. We’re glad we have George and DK here,” he said. “I think they’re going to be exciting for everyone to watch. Excited to have DK here, but no.”

The Steelers didn’t end up trading into the second round, foregoing the period, but still managed to snag seven players as they had multiple picks in the seventh round.

The Cowboys are also thought to have done good business, taking guard Tyler Booker at No. 12 overall following Zack Martin’s retirement.
