There will be a time, somewhere in the distant future, where we don't blog about Aaron Rodgers rumors. When that day comes, the sun will be shining on our faces, and the warm feeling in our soul will tell us that the task is done. We will be free.
But not today. Today, we're blogging about Aaron Rodgers rumors. Specifically, a spicy rumor from ESPN's NFL Insider Adam Schefter. While talking on his podcast (duh), Schefter was about four minutes into his trademark filibuster-esque reporting when he let a little nugget about Rodgers' next destination slip. If Rodgers returns to the NFL next year, it sounds like all signs are pointing towards him joining a Packers' NFC Rival. And not like, a real rival in the sense that there's any type of history there – moreso a "rival" in the way that word plays well in headlines. But it counts! Here's what he said.
Is Aaron Rodgers about to be the next QB for the Los Angeles Rams?
"It's up to the two sides to figure out a number that the Rams can live with and Matt Stafford is more comfortable with that would enable him to continue and finish his NFL career with the Rams," he said. "That's the goal, I believe, of both sides. Now, that could change very quickly. If the Rams couldn't get a deal done with Stafford, if they decide to trade him – a lot of if's involved – then Aaron Rodgers, in my mind, would be thrilled with the idea of going to Los Angeles. And the Rams could probably get him at a lower cost than it would be for Matthew Stafford ... "
I'll be honest, I really hate this idea. Outside of the terrifying notion that Sean McVay absolutely would know how to get the best out of the very last of Rodgers' career, I was sleeping extremely well at night knowing that Rodgers was going to end his career as a Tennessee Titan, or JJ McCarthy's backup. There were so many sad, defeating ways for his career to wind down, and I had elaborately daydreamed about each and every one of them.
But this is different. The Rams are annoyingly competitive, and I think I speak for most? of the country when I say that we've had enough of Rodgers in a major media market. We need the Titans now more than ever. The fate of our collective sanity depends on it.
