Bills Poised to Draft Cook Replacement With 'Lightning In A Bottle'

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook and his future with the franchise are considered murky at best.

Bills Poised to Draft Cook Replacement With 'Lightning In A Bottle'

Wanting a new contract to pay him roughly $15 million APY, Cook has seen a host of other key stars put pen to paper on new deals, while he still waits for his.

And he might be waiting a while with the draft just a couple of days away, there is growing momentum that if the Bills aren't keen on paying Cook, they could try and deal him and select his replacement in what is a loaded running back class.

Likely not to take a running back in the first couple of rounds due to defensive needs, but later? ESPN's Louis Riddick has named UCF's RJ Harvey as a sleeper in the class.

"If you want explosive plays, this is your guy," Riddick writes. "Harvey is lightning in a bottle at 5-foot-8 and 205 pounds, with 4.4 speed in the 40 and really solid vision and instincts as a runner. He has instant juice, able to go zero to full speed in the blink of an eye. Harvey also has good hands out of the backfield, with three TD catches last season. He will compete in pass pro, too, with improving technique and toughness. Teams can use him on all three downs, and someone could get an impact rusher early in Round 3."

With the Bills having Ray Davis and Ty Johnson behind Cook, adding some more juice if James is moved on feels likely.

Harvey is coming off a season that saw him total 1,577 yards and 22 touchdowns. He brings a bruising mentality to any offense he joins, something that makes him a fit in Buffalo.

Armed with 4.40 speed, Harvey could be the home-run hitter the Bills need out of the backfield, plus, with Joe Brady's want to get his backs involved in the passing game, Harvey can do that too, catching 20 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns last season.

A typical blue-collar back who could do all the dirty work for Buffalo's high-flying offense behind Josh Allen suggests that Harvey might be a nice fit for the Bills.
