Caleb Williams is really going through it during his rookie season with the Chicago Bears.
Nobody ever said being the No. 1 overall pick and a former Heisman Trophy winner was going to make things easy for Williams. Yes, Chicago was supposedly in a better spot than many struggling franchises that hold the No. 1 overall pick, but even the Bears' biggest doubters may have struggled to predict a 4-10 season that has seen the Bears fire Williams' offensive coordinator and then head coach.
The Bears are currently on an eight game losing streak and against the Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers still left on the schedule, there's a very good chance Williams finishes his rookie season on an 11 game losing streak.
That's tough, no matter how you look at it, but Williams recently revealed that he's doing everything he can to take this tough season and turn it into a positive. Not only is he finding out what he needs to work on this offseason, but he's taken this opportunity to work on positive self talk.
"This is going to sound crazy, but you talk to yourself, to be honest," Williams recently said, via Courtney Cronin of ESPN. "You motivate yourself, you encourage yourself. You have positive affirmations, is the word, that you say to yourself. With that, it makes the days better, it makes when you're going through a tough patch, it makes those days a little bit easier rather than pulling yourself down, telling yourself you're this and that."
Not only is Williams trying to stay positive, but he has specific mantras he's saying to himself.
"Like I said, it sounds kind of crazy, but I tell myself certain things: 'I am great. I will be great.' All these different things. So, I think that's one of the biggest things, is not pulling yourself down and being gracious with yourself," he explained.
This positive self talk may help while he takes his lumps as a rookie, but eventually the expectation will be that all his talent and positivity starts leading to wins in the Windy City.
