The San Francisco 49ers are clinging to thin playoff hopes and they're showing their fight against the Chicago Bears, as they lead 24-0 at halftime at Levi's Stadium.
There's no other way to describe it other than pure, utter domination by the 49ers, as the Bears have a total of four yards on 17 offensive plays through two quarters.
It's not an ideal debut for interim head coach Thomas Brown, who takes over the role after Matt Eberflus was fired last week.
The Bears have a single first down and are 0-for-5 on third down conversions, as the game has been completely shifted to Chicago's defense being constantly on the field so far.
Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams has been sacked four times so far, as he's completed a measly 6-for-9 passes for 27 yards. The running game has also been a non-factor against San Francisco, as D'Andre Swift has four carries for seven yards.
The Bears have punted on all five drives, with four of them coming via a three-and-out.
The 49ers scored on their first offensive drive, going five plays for 70 yards, ending with a Brock Purdy touchdown pass to Jauan Jennings. Isaac Guerendo scored his first NFL touchdown later in the first quarter to make it 14-0 and Jennings scored again in the second quarter to make it 21-0 San Francisco with 7:41 remaining in the half.
Jake Moody connected on a 23-yard field goal to make it 24-0 and a daunting task to come back for Chicago in the second half.
Purdy has dominated, completing 16-for-18 passes for 258 yards and touchdowns. His favorite target — aside from Jennings — has been tight end George Kittle, who has exploded for five catches for 138 yards.
The Bears will receive the ball first to begin the second half. A loss would likely eliminate Chicago from playoff contention.
