Bears DT Grady Jarrett explains why he can still be a game wrecker

The Chicago Bears made several moves this offseason to upgrade their roster, including the addition of defensive tackle Grady Jarrett.

A 10-year veteran of the Atlanta Falcons, Jarrett joins the Bears, along with defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo, to help upgrade the trenches. Even though he's played double digit seasons in the league, the 32-year old still feels he can be dominant, which will be crucial to the defense's success this season.

Earlier this week, Jarrett explained why he feels he can be game wrecker in his 11th season in the league.

"Being able to play in the run game and the pass game at an extremely high level," Jarrett said. "I think that's something that has definitely been a tool of mine. It was important to me as a young player when I used to play first and second down, I wanted to learn to be a better pass rusher. I did that and I was able to be a three-down and all-down defensive lineman and play up and down the line of scrimmage. That's something that I really take pride in; being flexible, being able to play three-technique, nose in the run game, being able to rush out from fives and nines in the past game and do whatever I need to do to be a versatile piece in the defense but also be super effective."

Having the ability to still be a three-down lineman will be key for Jarrett, but it may be his ability to lead and teach the younger players on the defensive line that will be just as important. Jarrett's toolset is going to be a big plus for the Bears' defensive line. But if he can open opportunities for edge rushers Sweat and Odeyingbo, as well as the younger tackles on the team, that role could be just as critical as his own production.
