Raiders predicted to sign former All-Pro running back to pair with Ashton Jeanty

The Las Vegas Raiders used their first-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft on a dynamic playmaker, as the team added running back Ashton Jeanty with the No.6 overall pick. The Boise State product posted one of the most electric and productive collegiate football seasons of all time in 2024, rushing for 2,601 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Though Jeanty is a generational talent and could develop into an All-Pro at the next level for Las Vegas, general manager John Spytek should look to bolster the depth behind the 21-year-old.

Browns QB competition underway as team activities begin 'The Insiders'

Raheem Mostert is slated to be the Raiders' No.2 running back, and though the veteran does provide some juice, he hasn't been able to stay healthy for the majority of his career. For that reason, The Draft Network's Justin Melo lists Las Vegas as a top landing spot for Cleveland Browns free agent running back Nick Chubb.

Jeanty projects as a three-down workhorse, but it wouldn't hurt to have better veteran depth behind him. Chubb would compete with Raheem Mostert, another oft-injured veteran who's past his prime, for the change-of-pace role. Behind Mostert, Carroll inherited Sincere McCormick and Zamir White from the previous regime and should promise them nothing heading into 2025.

Chubb has played in just ten games over the last two years, as he has dealt with a multitude of injuries. Even when he was on the field in 2024, Chubb didn't look like himself, as he rushed for 332 and three touchdowns on 3.3 yards per carry last season with the Browns.

Though Chubb is past his prime and his days as a high-level starting back are over, the 29-year-old can still provide value as a short-yardage back, as he hasn't lost his power and grit. Chubb would pair well with Jeanty and could also be a nice mentor for the young star running back entering his rookie season.

Additionally, Chubb shouldn't be expensive to sign. Spotrac projects the Georgia standout will land a deal worth $3.3 million over one year, and the Raiders have $36 million in cap space.

Jeanty should see most of the snaps at running back in 2025, but signing Chubb would bring toughness and experience to the position room. He would also compete for the No.2 spot with Mostert.
