The Baltimore Ravens have considerable depth at the wide receiver position. However, it wouldn’t hurt to add even more weapons for cornerstone quarterback Lamar Jackson ahead of what they’re hoping will be a deep playoff run.
In a rather unexpected turn of events, it appears that Baltimore has found a new wideout from a totally unexpected source.
Baltimore Ravens News: Malik Cunningham Shifting to WR
Incoming second-year stud Malik Cunningham did not exactly make a tremendous impact in his half-season with the Ravens last term. At this point, head coach John Harbaugh has given the 25-year-old an opportunity to make the roster for 2024. The main difference, however, is that Cunningham will now be asked to play as a wideout as opposed to his previous role as a quarterback.
According to Harbaugh, Cunningham’s transition has been good so far:
“[He’s] kind of a natural at the position,” Harbaugh said, via ESPN. “I’ve seen that he understands the game from the perspective of the quarterback, so [his] routes and coverage and timing and things like that have been excellent.”
Cunningham won’t be fighting for a place in Baltimore’s QB rotation for 2024. Instead, he has a shot to secure the No. 5 wideout spot behind the likes of Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor.
Cunningham might not have succeeded with his initial plans as an NFL quarterback, but it’s a testament to this young man’s versatility that he’s now transitioning to a new position — and based on what Harbaugh has said, it appears that the former Louisville QB has left quite an impression.
