Antonio Pierce Says Gardner Minshew Has ‘Magic About Him’

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - AUGUST 17: Quarterback Gardner Minshew #15 of the Las Vegas Raiders throws against the Dallas Cowboys during the first half of a game at Allegiant Stadium on August 17, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Gardner Minshew might be the most charismatic guy in the National Football League.

He’s the ultimate character, someone who looks like he starred in a comedy movie, but he’s no joke at all.

Minshew works very, very hard, and while funny, he’s also a leader.

That’s why Las Vegas Raiders coach Antonio Pierce believes he’s got some ‘magic about him.’

Talking to the team’s official website after naming Minshew as his starting quarterback, the Raiders’ new full-time coach raved about his veteran quarterback:

“We support him, our teams behind it, our staff behind it, organizations behind it. … There’s some magic about him when he does break the pocket and does his thing, but there’s a lot of times where if the first or second read is there, we got to let it rip.,” Pierce said.

Minshew might not be a starting-caliber player.

He has some physical limitations and has struggled to take care of the football at times.

However, he’s one of the best backups and veterans any team could have on their roster.

The Raiders might not have liked what they saw from second-year pro Aidan O’Connell, although he could still have a chance to regain the starting spot if Minshew struggles early in the season.

Whatever the case, as much as everybody at home will be rooting for the Washington State product to be somewhat of a late bloomer and lead the Raiders to success, chances are that he’s only going to be a stopgap at the position for one year.

The Raiders are going to rely heavily on their defense and hope that Minshew can do just enough to keep the chains in motion to help them win some games.

One thing’s for sure: Minshew Mania refuses to die, and he’ll just continue to bring more fans along every stop of his NFL journey.
