Alabama football quarterback Jalen Milroe struggled a good bit against Tennessee.
Milroe completed 25 of 45 passes (55.6%) for 239 yards, one touchdown with two interceptions. He finished with a quarterback rating of 65.3 and he wasn’t much of a factor on the ground; Milroe rushed for 11 yards on 14 carries and no scores.
It was Milroe’s worst completion percentage this season, second straight game with two interceptions and first game without a rushing touchdown all season.
“It’s definitely, ‘I’ve got your back’“ tight end CJ Dippre said of his message to Milroe. ”We’ve always had each other’s back. Why wouldn’t we have each other’s back now. I don’t think anything has changed week in and week out. It’s just about going 1-0 and worrying about Missouri this week.”
Receiver Germie Bernard shared a similar message Tuesday.
“We always have J-Mil’s back,” Bernard said. “(When) the ball is in our vicinity, we have to be better at making those plays when those opportunities come our way.”
Just a few weeks ago, Milroe looked like a Heisman Trophy favorite, picking apart Georgia while completing 27 of 33 passes (81.8%) with two passing touchdowns. That was his best completion percentage yet this season. Ever since, it has gone down each game.
“I gotta do better on my end,” Milroe said after the loss to Tennessee. “Playing with better detail and communication up front, and allowing our guys to line up properly with the communication, so going back, that’s something that we’re just going to build and get better at.”
That can start this weekend, when No. 15 Alabama will face No. 21 Missouri on Saturday (2:45 p.m. CT, ABC) at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
