Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams, who has issued a trade request, reportedly desires a deal to the New York Jets, which would link him up with ex-Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers.
Asked about Adams' reported interest during a press conference with reporters Friday, Rodgers had this to say (h/t Kevin Patra of NFL.com).
"I don't know how much I can say about it because of tampering, but I still have a close friendship with him," Rodgers said. "We spent time in the offseason together. He's a great guy and a great player. The rest of that's out of my hands."
Rodgers and Adams were teammates in Green Bay for eight years (2014-2021). The two enjoyed great success together, especially in their final two seasons. Rodgers won back-to-back NFL MVP, and Adams caught 238 passes for 2,927 yards and 29 touchdowns during that two-year span.
The Jets can certainly use Adams. It's been a slow start for the offense, which is just 22nd in the NFL in points per game (19.0 PPG). Adams would immediately step in and be the team's No. 1 wide receiver, taking some attention off Garrett Wilson, who's started his career with back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns.
The apex of the Rodgers-Adams success happened while Nathaniel Hackett was calling the shot as the Packers' offensive coordinator. He's now in the same role with the Jets, and it's certainly possible that they could all recreate that old Packer magic.
Of course, the Jets should have competition for Adams given his resume. He's a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time all-Pro who's enjoyed 1,100-yard seasons in five of his past six years. Adams is dealing with a week-to-week hamstring injury, although it hasn't been reported to be a long-term concern.
But Adams heading to the Jets makes sense. Whether that happens is up for debate, but Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported that the Raiders will deal Adams "well before the Nov. 5 trade deadline, and a deal may even get struck as early as next week." So we'll soon see if Adams and Rodgers reunite.
