Despite the ongoing “whispers” linking Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine to the Los Angeles Lakers for nearly a year, a potential deal between the two teams appears unlikely, NBA reporters Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Sources indicate that the trade pieces required to make such a deal work just aren’t there for the Bulls, leaving Los Angeles as a less probable landing spot for the two-time All-Star.
Cowley also sheds light on the status of trade talks between the Bulls and other teams, noting that while there was some “light momentum” in discussions with the Denver Nuggets, no significant progress has been made since then.
Both teams have reportedly exchanged feelers about potential trades, but those talks have yet to move beyond the initial stages. For now, LaVine’s future remains in limbo, as Chicago continues to evaluate its options.
When it comes to other trade targets in Chicago, Cowley also examines the situations surrounding Nikola Vucevic and Lonzo Ball. The Bulls are said to be focusing on acquiring draft assets and expiring contracts in any deals involving the veteran big man and the oft-injured point guard.
While some reports have suggested that the Bulls are holding out for a first-round pick in exchange for Vucevic, Cowley’s source suggests that’s not the team’s true expectation. Instead, a more realistic return for Vucevic could involve a package of multiple second-round picks.
Similarly, when it comes to Ball, Chicago is reportedly seeking a combination of second-round picks and matching expiring salaries, given Ball’s uncertain health status.
As the trade deadline approaches, it’s clear the Bulls are actively exploring options but may have to adjust their expectations to move these assets.
