Holden finds Claire at Crimson Lights and asks how her dad is. She explains he passed away.

He’s sorry. It mist be rough to go through this alone. Claire has her mom but she’s grieving too.

Even though he can’t talk to Kyle, she likes to imagine he can sense he knows she needs him and will come home.
Sitting with her, he says he’s sure Kyle would be there if he could. He knows how loss feels. He lost his father to cancer a few years ago.
It’s still painful for him to talk about. His dad was his best friend in the world.

Claire fills him in on how she didn’t know her family until very recently, but her dad treated her like they’d always known each other.
It’s hard for her to imagine never being able to see him again.
Holden tells her the pain doens’t go away. It just becomes more tolerable and you go on because it’s what they would have wanted.
The fact that she is out and about is a good sign. He offers to distract her.
They talk about the books she likes to read and horseback riding. She even has her own horse and her dad taught her to take care of him.

She remembers how they used to laugh. She never laughed so hard in her life.
Claire suggests they get breakfast some other time. He understands and asks if he can put his contact in her phone. She agrees.

As he enters it, he says the more people she’s around the better. It takes time to get over the rawness and adjust.
Before he can go, she says breakfast would actually be nice.

Chelsea is surprised when Adam shows up at the office. She didn’t expect him to be back so soon and is eager to hear about the trip.

Adam and Chelsea go to Society for coffee and he tells how brutal the travel has been.
She informs him that Cole didn’t make it. They talk about how terrible that is and how Victoria can’t reach anyone.

Chelsea says Victoria isn’t doing great. Adam guesses that Nikki was sensing that. She was so worried and he was surprised she’d tell him that.
He had so sense this was possible and feels bad for giving the family in France false hope.

They get back to discussing the trip. She’s surprised Cane is Dumas rather than his father. This all seems shady.
They need to find out if Colin is really dead and what Cane is up to. Buying loads of real estate doesn’t seem to be about starting fresh.
Adam says they need to keep digging. This is a huge story and it’s all theirs.
She’s amazed that Adam walked up a mountain and Cane has a private train. Victor still has no idea they held back the Billy bashing story.

Chelsea is sure Lily is devastated by all this. Adam admits that Phyllis saw him there and they need to hope Nick has convinced him to keep her mouth shut.
He’d like to run the story now but they need to stop Cane, not publicize him. She’s impressed that he’s putting family first.
Adam points out that Billy and Sally can’t get a jump on them so they are still ahead. He suggests that Cane must have a point person in town.
Spotting Holden entering with Claire, she smiles and says she knows who that person might be.

She explains Holden used to work with Damian for Dumas.
Chelsea tells him that Holden tried to get information from her in a very flirty way. That gives Adam a chuckle.
She adds that she saw Cane and Holden talking and he’s clearly a shark.

The four of them get together and Adam pays his condolences to Claire. He’ll drop in on her mom later.

He and Holden get introductions and Adam asks about what it was like to work for Dumas.
Holden says he never met the man and he’s no longer on talking terms with Damian, who was scooped up by Winters.

Adam offers to speak to Devon for him but Holden says he has other options.
When the Newman keeps asking questions, Holden repeats he no longer works for Dumas.
Adam apologizes if he’s struck a nerve. Holden insists he hasn’t and Claire suggests they grab a table.

Before they do, Adam suggests Holden drop by Newman Media to discuss possibilities. He’s not offering him a job yet…it’s just a discussion.

Holden will think about it and walks off with Claire.
Chelsea tells Adam that was well-played.

As soon as Claire and Holden get a table, she tells him she can’t do this. Hearing Adam mention her mom set her off again.

He understands and urges her to focus on the things she needs to do. Holden suggests she treat grief like a wave and try to ride it.
She thanks him for being kind and helpful. She misses Kyle a lot.

He’s sure Kyle misses her too. She says it’s not just that he’s gone, but that he’s with Audra.
Holden says Audra is a force of nature. But if she trusts Kyle…she shouldn’t be worried. She looks worried.

Adam and Chelsea return to the office and talk about how suspicious Holden is. He seems like a player.

They worry about Claire.
