With injuries mounting, Seahawks sign a pair of tight ends

Three Seahawks tight ends are hurt, which means it’s time to sign a free agent or two.

The Seattle Seahawks are banged up at tight end with a week left in preseason, prompting them to make a couple of roster changes.

ESPN’s Brady Henderson reports that Seattle has signed former UCLA Bruins player Michael Ezeike, waiving former Washington State inside linebacker Devin Richardson to make room on the 90-man roster. The Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta is reporting that former Pittsburg State tight end Devon Garrison will also be signed, although it’s not known who is being let go as a corresponding move.

This comes as no surprise given three Seahawks TEs are all hurt to some degree. Noah Fant has been limited in practice with a foot injury, Pharaoh Brown was carted off of last Thursday’s joint practice with the Tennessee Titans with his own foot injury, and undrafted rookie Jack Westover missed Saturday’s preseason game against the Titans with a hamstring injury. Tyler Mabry, Brady Russell, and rookie A.J. Barner were Seattle’s only healthy tight ends prior to the Ezeike signing.

Ezeike spent five years at UCLA, catching 35 passes for 407 yards and 7 touchdowns. As a fifth-year senior, he posted 20 catches for 226 yards and 4 touchdowns. After going undrafted, Ezeike was signed by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023 but did not make the regular season roster.

Garrison caught 97 passes for 1,581 yards and 16 touchdowns in four seasons at Pittsburg State, earning a couple of All-American nods at a Division II level. He’s an undrafted rookie who received an invite to Green Bay Packers minicamp back in April. It looks like the Seahawks will be the first team to sign him.
