Will key freshman return next season for Alabama basketball?

Alabama men’s basketball will have a much different roster next season.

Four of five starters will automatically be different. Mark Sears, Grant Nelson, Clifford Omoruyi and Chris Youngblood all see their eligibility expire.

The question that looms is, what will the rest of the roster look like?

The transfer portal is open, and NIL among other reasons can compel players to enter. Roster retention will be key in many ways.

Atop that list should probably be keeping Aiden Sherrell.

Does he plan to be back with Alabama in 2025-26?

“Yeah that’s the plan for sure, to be back,” Sherrell said in the postgame locker room after the 85-65 loss to Duke in the Elite Eight.

He can do things that guys his size often can’t do. Case in point: What he did in the first half vs. Duke in Saturday’s regional final. The 6-10 big man made two triples in the first half. He also grabbed two rebounds and drew a foul in about nine minutes of play. The former five-star McDonald’s All-American has the potential to be a transcendent player in his sophomore season.

“I’ve learned so many things,” Sherrell said of his freshman season. “I learned how to play an NBA style offense. I learned how to build in every aspect of basketball. Even off the court, I’ve learned to be a better person. These guys taught me so much and the coaching staff taught me so much. I’m just grateful for sure.”
