It was a bit of a shock to learn that Katie Maloney wasn’t a fan of Vanderpump Rules. The OG literally grew up on the reality TV series. She showcased her friendships, dating life, and divorce. For the most part, Katie was the sidekick of Stassi Schroeder. But once the blonde was given the boot, Katie was allowed to spread her wings. Now, with the cancellation, Katie revealed that sometimes filming the series was a complete nightmare for her.
Katie Maloney is over a few of her costars
The Something About Her owner never learned that you don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Recently, Katie went on to a podcast to air some of Vanderpump Rules’ dirty laundry. She told the host that some scenes were “torture.” The self-proclaimed emo lover noted, “Some days we filmed Tuesday through Saturday. At the end of the day, it’s still like a production with a crew and members of the production crew that are unionized and things like that. So there are like work hours technically. And we had, like, three crews that circulated … Sometimes I would film like all day.”
The revelation came off a bit harsh since most viewers like to believe that the series wasn’t staged at all. However, the production would often give the cast a little push sometimes and prompt them with questions. Katie added, “And sometimes, if there’s drama, someone got to fight the night before, then your entire schedule changed the next day. Because they got to follow the story.” I can understand Katie’s annoyance, but I can’t say that I sympathize with her. I mean, she did get a big Bravo check for the inconvenience of filming, right?

Katie Maloney is spilling the tea
According to Katie, the Bravo cameras can get to her house in “lightning speed.” For the reformed reality TV star, it was all a bit jarring. “Sometimes you don’t know the context. They’re like, hey, you’re at this time, and like, we’ll be there,” she explained. “Cause someone’s got to drop a bomb on you.” And it turns out that rhyme you’re told as kids, you know, “secrets secrets are no fun …” Well, they are. Katie shared that the cast are not allowed to fill one another in because production wants to always catch their first-hand reactions to the news. But she did reveal that some cast members would text one another to ruin the surprise.
Katie revealed, “Yeah, there’s one girl that really made a habit of that. We’d be filming it. We’d be maybe talking about her or her boyfriend or husband or whatever at the time … and she’s like texting him, telling him everything that’s happening.” While on the podcast, Katie also touched on her ex-husband’s weird relationship with Lisa Vanderpump. Katie went as far as to note that Tom Schwartz had a “crush” on the matriarch while Lisa would often “baby him.” Yuck. I’m getting totally weird vibes from that.
Katie Maloney is over fake people
Not surprisingly, Katie also tattled about a few of her former Vanderpump Rules stars going over the top when it came to self-producing. The restaurant owner shared that “they would think that, and they would just sort of be like, ‘Well, I’m gonna be this, this season.’ You want to appeal to people more, but it never works. It blows up in people’s faces every single time.” For years, viewers have watched the likes of Scheana Shay and Lala Kent try to become fan favorites, as they say in the middle of all the drama. Katie shared, “That would be frustrating because you’re like, ‘Why are you acting this way?’ People think that they can sway audience opinion, and you are just so f*cked if you think that you can predict what an audience is gonna think or feel.”
For someone like Katie, the entire setup of Vanderpump Rules now feels as if it were trite for her. With a reboot already in motion, it looks like the mass axing of the OGs worked out for her. Now, she can concentrate on her new boyfriend and sandwich shop. Hopefully, both are free of drama.
The Vanderpump Rules is available to stream on Peacock.
