Why Not ‘Lock In Terry McLaurin For The Rest Of His Prime’

The Las Vegas Raiders have shown that they’re unlikely to swing for a big name wide receiver. In fact, they appear content with their interesting mix of proven and reliable talent such as Jakobi Meyers combined with promising rookies, namely Jack Bech. Still, FOX Sports says Terry McLaurin would be a nice addition given his current holdout situation.

Naturally, Raiders fans want every big name available sometimes. This current brain trust of Pete Carroll and John Spytek follows their own blueprint. Even if it can be frustrating for Raider Nation at times. It wasn’t that long ago many wondered why so many of last year’s defensive starters were not being retained. Still, much of the offensive side of the ball remained intact.

Terry McLaurin on the Raiders? Yes please… *probably*

Here’s the thing, do the Raiders really need more help at wide receiver? Don’t forget, their primary weapon in the passing game is obviously tight end Brock Bowers. That’ll likely continue under offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. Is it worth it to go after a big name? After Meyers, there’s a lot of unproven potential and very little in the way of a commodity. McLaurin has hauled in 1,000-plus receiving yards each season since 2020. He’s done so while keeping his drops low; no more than five each year of his career.

David Helman of Fox Sports is aware of how silly the idea of Terry McLaurin to the Raiders might seem but he’s not wrong in what it would mean. “Make fun of me if you want, but a Raiders skill group of McLaurin, Bowers, Jeanty and Meyers might be the best in the AFC West,” wrote Helman. “Rather than take your chances in the draft, why not ship a pick or two to Washington and lock in McLaurin for the rest of his prime?” Helman asked.

Currently, insiders aren’t too keen on McLaurin’s future in Washington. Though he’s successfully gone about a similar strategy before in his career, 2025 might end differently. If you’re Spytek, do you double down on an offense with so many intriguing players and give Geno Smith another 1,000-yard receiver?
